6 easy steps to a better nighttime skincare routine
It’s the end of the day and you’ve taken your makeup off and you’re ready for the BEST PART OF THE NIGHT! What are your go to’s? Assuming you have some sort of go to, but are looking for more of a set nighttime skincare routine, considering you’ve landed on this post! I’m here to make a routine for you, SO SIMPLE, you won’t dread having to do it every single night, but instead look forward to doing it every single night! If you don’t already have a skincare routine, please read my post on 6 reasons why you need a strict skincare routine, and then come back to this post 🙂
nighttime skincare routine
1.) cleanser
*after removing any makeup you have on your face*
I typically do this step in the shower because I find it 10000% less messy. You know what I’m talking about! Water dripping from your face onto the counter, water running down your forearms onto the floor or your shirt etc.! You see, just a lot easier in the shower!! I also use this silicone face scrubber for a more intense cleanse! It’s cheap and simple but a total game changer. Make sure to check the sizing.. the ones linked are perfect for the face, but there are some smaller ones that look the same in pictures (I know from experience!) Also, an important note, be sure to PAT DRY your face with a towel and do not RUB DRY!
*If you happen to skip your cleanser one night (because life happens!) at least use the micellar water, with cotton pads, to remove any access dirt or makeup before applying your moisturizer! Click here for my favorite cleanser! OR you could do this right after taking your makeup off and right before you hop in the shower to cleanse, for an extra cleansing oomf!
2.) moisturizer
This is my absolute favorite part of every morning and night! There’s just something about having all of your makeup off, and that clean feeling while moisturizing your face! Ahh! Remember to always use circular motions when applying! Click here for my favorite moisturizer!
3.) under eye cream
This is another PAT don’t RUB kind of situation! Use your ring finger to gently apply your under eye cream! You use your ring finger because it’s proven to have the most gentle touch! (awe, get it!? <3) Click here for my favorite under eye cream!
Everyone’s skin is different, and there’s no secret that skincare is NOT one size fits all! Figure out which brand/products work for you and stick with it! Consistency is key! I’ve also downloaded a free MaryKay Skin Analyzer app on my phone and it scans your face to let you know your problem areas AND what type of skin you have. Can you believe I was using “normal to dry” for years, and I tried the app and switched to “combination/oily” like recommended and my skin has never felt soooo good! So weird!! It’s worth a shot to see at least what you should be looking for!
4.) retinol
This is my newest addition to the team 😉 I started using this about 4 months ago and I’m obsessed!! I read that you should start slow (like every other day) but did I listen? no. So the dry, and redness hit a little harder than normal I’d assume, but it’s also nothing that couldn’t be covered up by makeup so I’m not talking drastic dry and redness! I’ve recently started doing every other night now 😛 And on the off nights I may, depending on my color already, do my tanning drops! I’m not sure if mixing is bad or not, but to be safe I just alternate!
5.) laneige lip mask
I’ve talked about this, I feel like, a lot recently but it’s just that good! I was using the Vaseline lip therapy before – which is insanely cheap so if you’re looking for an alternative this could be it! But if I’m comparing the two, the vaseline is just so much more “sticky” and “gooey” feeling, where as the Laneige is more of a moisture, lip balm feeling! It’s definitely pricey, but there’s soo much product so it should last you a while! They do go on bundle sale from time to time so just be on the lookout!
6.) pimple patches
I’m not sure if you believe in magic, but after a night with these you will 😛 I SWEAR BY THESE. They are actually incredible and that’s really all I have to say! Ruunnnn!!
BONUS:
I’ll also add in there, my eyelash serum! I have become lazy with this step simply because I ran out and was without it for a while and now forget sometimes. The product and the price point are amazing. *I’ve heard both good and bad feedback from friends and family that have tried this, some say they saw nothing and others say they are obsessed! So, like with anything, one size does not fit all – but worth a try! (it’s also not pregnancy safe)
SWEET + SIMPLE
I’m a firm believer that you don’t need ALL OF THE THINGS to have the best skincare routine. Like I mention in my 34 genius beauty tips you need to know asap post, LESS IS MORE, and that can very well be the case with your nighttime skincare routine! or not! You do you! But I do truly hope this helps you narrow down a set, simple, skincare routine that you’re able to stick with and feel better about your skin 🙂
