I won’t lie, I’m not a huge fan of the term “anti-aging” because whether we like it or not, we will all be aging at some point in time … but I am a firm believer in prolonging that stage in life as much as possible, so I’ll take any anti-aging skin care tips I can get, how about you?!
Yes these tips are mainly to prevent wrinkles and anti-aging, but every one of them is far more beneficial than just that – which is why I LOVE talking and learning about all things beauty and skin care! And I hope you all do too! Enjoy my 6 favorite anti-aging skin care tips!

ANTI-AGING SKIN CARE TIPS
1.) sunscreen
Did you know sun damage is the number one cause for wrinkles? And did you know it can actually AGE YOU! Yeah, that’s a no for me!! This doesn’t just go for hanging by the pool, you should be wearing sunscreen every time you leave the house! Luckily for us ladies, most makeup products contain some amount of SPF in it! If yours doesn’t, you should look into switching or just adding an extra step of SPF! Below are a few favorites to look into!
Wearing SPF can prevent age spots and discoloration. It holds a lot of antioxidants which protects your collagen – SAY NO MORE! You’ll notice collagen popping up a lot in this post and as it makes total sense (considering we are talking about skin)I won’t elaborate on it in this post but If you’re interested I HIGHLY recommend reading up on my post about health and beauty benefits collagen can provide! You won’t regret it!
2.) exfoliate
Exfoliating your skin helps remove the excess build up of dead skin cells. Which gets rid of that dull looking complexion and rough patches if not properly taken care of! I explain so much more about this in my recent post on why having a strict skincare routine is extremely important!
You’ll want to be sure to avoid harsh physical exfoliants, such as sugar scrubs, to prevent sagging. A wash cloth or soft sponge are typically the way to go. I actually recently found a sponge I’m dying to try that dissolves bonds between the skin cells and allows them to detach! I’m excited try it! I’ll link it here for you if you’re looking for an exfoliant! You can get it from amazon and it’s under $10 – the best!
Note that TOO much exfoliating CAN be counterproductive! Ask your doctor about your skin type and how many times you should be exfoliating!
3.) retinoids
Retinoids are proven to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles by increasing collagen production! Again, SAY NO MORE! But, it ALSO stimulates production of new blood vessels in your skin which will improve skin color, ages spots and rough patches – aka everything sun damage can cause! Love this for an anti-aging skin care tip!
Retinoids take up to six months of use in order to see improvement on wrinkles and anywhere from 6-12 months to see your best results. Which brings me to my ‘6 reasons why having you need a strict skincare routine’ post! Check it out, if you have’t already! Consistency is key, ladies! Nothing happens over night!
Important: It’s normal and common that retinoids cause skin dryness, peeling and irritation, therefore doctors usually recommend only using them every other night at first, while gradually working your way up to a nightly routine.
4.) watch your diet
Have you ever heard of the saying “you are what you eat”? I bet you have and probably thought junk food = fat, right? But you probably didn’t think junk food = aging skin, did ya?! Most of what happens on the outside of your body is a result of what you put inside your body! Read that again! I love this anti-aging tip because OBVIOUSLY a clean diet is usually the “tip” or “trick” for everything! So no matter what, it’s always beneficial to watch what you’re eating!
It’s very important to eat foods that will nourish the skin while avoiding foods/beverages that will dehydrate the skin! Did you know foods that are high in sugar, and white carbohydrates actually AGE you faster by breaking down the glucose?! Ehhhh again, no thank you!! Instead you’re going to want to aim for a more protein packed diet to help build strong collagen! Also fun fact: foods packed with vitamin C = youthful looking skin!! (also the vitamin c The Ordinary serum linked above)
5.) consider supplementing
Interesting enough, too little fat in your diet can cause wrinkles and dryness! Therefore it’s very important to be sure you’re getting the appropriate amount of good, healthy fats! This is what gives your skin that “glow”! Vitamin A and vitamin C are almost a must when it comes to your skin care! Vitamin C can also be found in your collagen, think “C” for collagen 😛
Implementing enough healthy fats into your diet above, like avocados / nuts / seeds / and fish, can sometimes be hard! There is absolutely no shame in getting a little boost with supplements! OMEGA-3’s are my absolute FAVORITE supplements to take. There are SOOOO many benefits from them that make them so good (I’ll let you do your own in-depth research on this one) but it keeps your skin nice and moist while delaying in the maturing process (aging/wrinkles). If you’re vegetarian, a good sub for OMEGA-3’s would be flaxseed!
As mentioned above in watching your diet, protein is a huge aspect when it comes to your skin and anti-aging! Women ideally should be consuming 30 grams of protein per meal equaling 90 grams a day! I don’t know about you but I’ve tracked my protein and I was coming no where near that!!! So I turned to protein shakes! And I was not a fan! Until I came across this one that completely change date game for me and I have been drinking it ever since, every morning!
Speaking of supplements, liquid collagen is my go to! For all things hair, skin, nails, and joints! As you age, your body breaks down its existing collagen and it gets harder and harder to produce more. This is why its important to for those listed above, to implement collagen into your daily routine! As mentioned before, I go into full depth in my post on all the health and beauty benefits from collagen, you’ll definitely want to read this!

6.) moisturize like your life depends on it
Sort of like collagen, with age comes less sebum. Which means your skin tends to dry out more easily. Yes, that usually means less acne (score!) but to keep from producing fine lines, we need to keep the skin hydrated by, our diet of course, and moisturizing!! This is a major, and my favorite, step in anti-aging.
My first rule/step when it comes to moisturizing is to make sure the skin is clean! This is to avoid trapping any bacteria in when applying the moisturizer! With that said, I cleanse my face every morning and night before I start my skin care routine, with miceller water! It’s insanely important that you wash your face every morning and night, I cannot stress this enough!! AGAIN, why it’s important to have a strict skincare routine!!! My favorite moisturizer and skin care products that I’ve used religiously for years is MaryKay, but whichever you use just make sure you’re using them consistently!
BONUS INFORMATION
Here are a few of my other favorite ways to prolong aging skin early on! All of these anti-aging tips and favorites are SO EASILY found and implemented in your daily routine which is why I absolutely LOVEEEEE them!
- vitamin b12 – I take these vitamins every morning! B12 is known to reduce skin cell inflammation and dryness! B12 can be found effective for treating acne, psoriasis, and eczema (that’s me!!) *these can be found in any drug store or super center.
- green tea – I honestly didn’t start drinking tea until 2019 when I was living in the UK (ironic right haha) but it was then when I learned of all the amazing benefits all sorts of tea has for you. It’s incredible! Green tea can protect against skin cancer, premature aging, reduces redness + irritation, moisturizes the skin, and can treat acne. It’s also packed with many vitamins, including Vitamin E which is known to nourish and hydrate the skin!
- garlic – garlic is made up of properties that help kill the bacteria that creates acne. Garlic can also reduce inflammation, improve blood circulation, and reduce swelling. All of which will allow the skin to receive more nutrients! You’ll just have to bare with the oder 😛
- hand cream – This is important!! We get all worked up about the facial cream and forget completely about the hands! Our hands are the first thing to age, so lather those babies up with some wrinkle-free cream!!
- beauty sleep – cliche, but CRUCIAL! This relaxes and calms your stress levels which prevents aging! And did you know, when you’re sleeping is when your skin makes new collagen – goodbye sagging, hello nap time??!! If you struggle getting enough, quality sleep – try a warm cup of chamomile tea before bed! I just recently starting doing this to go a more natural route (got rid of my melatonin gummies) to help with insomnia, and wow!
