5 reasons why alone time is so important
Hi friends 🙂 I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, and I guess start to your week! HA! Kev flew out to Toronto this past weekend for a QUICK boys trip. (I’m talking less than 48 hours! LOL) He hasn’t seen his group of friends from home in over a year, so he was really happy to be spending some time with them! So for me, that meant spending the weekend alone for the first time in Regina! I’ve spent my fair share of nights alone in random cities, but the first night is always SO weird! Every noise the place makes is intensified and suddenly bing watching murder documentaries all day was a bad idea! (Thank god for the grinch 😛 IYKYK)

I’m a FIRM believer of alone time. I seriously love it so much. So I wasn’t at all mad that I would be spending the weekend alone! I fully embraced it. Once Saturday hit, I didn’t touch my lap top – I stayed off social media for most of, if not almost all of, the day – I ate dinner at a RESTAURANT.. BY MY SELF! (That’s the first, my mom would be so proud) It was so relaxing, and just very much needed!
Here are a few tips I’ve learned that have helped me and my own personal growth!
5 reasons why alone time is so important
1.) increases self growth – When you spend so much time with people and not enough time by yourself, you tend to develop more of their actions and views. You know that saying “You are who you hang out with” which is all great if you’re surrounding yourself with great people (which you should be doing!) but don’t lose yourself in their ways by doing so. You need a good balance of growth by surrounding yourself with great people as well as surrounding yourself… with yourself.
2.) increases productivity – POV: 2020 when companies were forced to go remote… and now some are choosing to stay that way due to their increase in productivity with their employees! I do agree that human interaction is a great form of self care, and definitely needed in terms of our sanity. But when it comes to working and being productive, having that alone time is truly where you shine!
3.) increases creativity – Being alone inside your head with your OWN thoughts, gives you more time to think and wander around up there, becoming more creative! I read something that mentioned this in terms of artists always being alone in their studio, or why writers send themselves off to a cabin in the woods etc. and it really did click!
4.) builds mental strength – As it’s important to create connections with people, the ability to tolerate alone time is proven to increase happiness, life satisfaction, and improve your stress management! Also, did you know, people who enjoy alone time may experience less depression?! I have mixed feelings about that one, but just thought I’d share!
Don’t come for me, but I personally have always found it to be a red flag when I meet someone who can’t spend one second alone with themselves. Someone who constantly needs affirmation, and to be around someone else 24/7. Idk what that says about me but that’s just how I feel. oops.
5.) get to know yourself better – being alone helps you better understand yourself, and your choices, without the influence of the others. You become more comfortable in your own skin! I’ll encourage you to read my new post, 10 tips on creating a happier you, if you’re wanting to dig a little deeper in this aspect <3
Alone time gives my body the time it needs to relax, unwind, and pretty much recover from just over doing it really! It helps my CONSTANT spinning mind breath more while thinking about more of the important things in life and not necessarily the small things I get all worked up about. Create time for your alone time, it’s important! When life is pulling you in so many different directions, and giving you a million decisions to make at once – be strong enough as YOU to make those better decisions, to be more creative, and to be more productive all while never loosing sight of YOU!
I must note, that I am not a counselor, nor do I have any mental health training whatsoever. Like I said above, these tips are what helped me and my own personal growth! As I want to be able to help every single one of you with just my simple life lessons, please know that it’s OKAY to seek professional help! <3
