I don’t know about you but there is nothing I love more than an ORGANIZED space to call my own! Many people have started working from home and have yet to return, or may not even return at all! You’re probably thinking it’s time to ditch the “make shift home office” and finally create a space you’ll feel more productive in, and more like your office less like your home! So I put together some of my favorite home office ideas that I’m loving and think you will to!
Like I said above, there is nothing I love more than an organized space I get to call my own! An office is the perfect space, and sometimes the only space, for that! If you’re working from home, It’s extremely important to have a dedicated work space to ensure things don’t get out of hand!
Working from your couch every now and then is nice but you MUST be able to differentiate the two when you’re working from home. Work = desk + lounge = couch. Or they mix and that’s not helping anyone! This allows for a change of scenery as well, considering you are now spending your entire day in your home! With that said, If you’re looking for tips on how to stay motivated while working from home – I’ve got you covered! Read my post on 12 tips on how to productively work from home!
1.) vision boards
When you think of a vision board, what is the first thing that pops into your mind? Do you know what it is? Do you know its purpose? A vision board Is a mix or collage of imagines and or words representing a persons goals (or wishes!), and it’s purpose is to create motivation and inspiration! Find some old magazines or online pictures and cut/print them out and let’s start this ‘home office ideas’ off with a vision of exactly what you want and are working towards!
This can easily be a small project on a poster board or computer paper in a picture frame. It can also be life size boards leaning against the wall! (check out this incredible DIY life size vision board by Sophia Lee!) Very dramatic for a home office maybe, but very cute if you do it right! Very cute, and such a fun way to stay motivated toward your goals!
2.) personalized wall calendars
I think this is the CUTEST way to add a little personal touch to the walls in your home office space + still keeping it professional.
These Calendars are SOO beautiful and make for the perfect home office ideas. (or even if you eventually go into an office, bring this sucker with you!!) You can customize them however you’d like. Your name, your companies name, your family’s name, a “boss” saying – literally anything!! Make it fun!
3.) subtile theme
This is such a cute and unique idea for any home office ideas! This can be anything you make of it and it’s all yours, how fun! Do you love the beach? Add subtile beach decor! Do you love elephants? Add cute subtle elephant decor! This is the perfect way to express yourself… but you also don’t want to over do it, this sort of thing can get tacky quick! Hint: subtile!
I’ll give you all a sneak peak of MY future home office theme idea, that I plan to have when we move into our house! A travel Theme!! As you all know I am a planner (!!) I knew one day I wanted this, so I actually incorporated it into our wedding 😛 (you can see more travel decor items in this post!) with the sole purpose of being able to have timeless memories of our most magical day, right there in our home… office!
For example: Our guest book, was a globe! I will 100% be displaying our globe on a shelf in our home office! Along with our table numbers being a place we have lived in or held a very special place in our hearts – this will be used to create a wall decal where we will then start pinning all of the locations we have been to or lived in together!
Ooh maybe we’ll even add the different time zone wall clocks?! *check out the slides below on how I would DIY my own time zone clocks! SO CUTE!! Now that you know my idea of my future office theme – did that help with creating your own subtile office theme idea?
5.) pop of color and/or texture
Pop of color can most definitely be your accent wall like we will talk about below! BUT if having such a huge part of the room stand out in a different color isn’t your thing, then I would definitely suggest pops of color here and there with your furniture or decor items!
This could mean a colored office chair or brightly colored wall decor items! You could maybe even choose a bold rug! And when it comes to texture – how cute is a fuzzy rug, or a velvet office chair? Get creative!! Like, textured wall paper or something oooooh! Use this space to really show your unique style as big or as small as you’d like!
4.) accent wall
I LOVEEEEEEE this idea!! So much! (woah, dramatic?) There are so many fun unique ideas you can come up with when it comes to an accent wall! And the best part is, you can’t really go wrong with it, it’s just one wall!!
Like I mentioned above for my future home office, the travel theme, I also envision built-in shelving and storage cabinets underneath! And in my head I picture that shelving ALSO being a different color than the rest of the room! Oooooh two in one accent wall 😛 Other accent walls that I LIVE FOR on Pinterest are…
- textured wallpaper
- design wallpaper
- simple one wall different color
- full wall shiplap
- half wall shiplap
- colored shiplap
- built-in shelves
- colored built-in shelves
- floating shelves
- and more!
There are so many fun, and affordable, ways to create a beautiful accent wall to your home office ideas! Check out my office decor inspo Pinterest board here!
6.) standing desks/bike desk/ball chair
I personally think this one is super neat! I don’t know a single person that works at a desk that doesn’t complain about sitting all day, amirght?! This is such a neat and easy way to not feel like you’ve just sat around all day and hardly moved! Standing desks are cool for when you need to just stretch out and be up! Now add wheels on that and you can get a few steps in as you go! #extra! Or if you can’t find a standing desk that fits your style – try just adding a laptop or desktop stand to the desk, so when you would like to stand, just prop your computer up to your eye level!
I had a professor in college that used a yoga ball as his office chair to keep him awake by having to balance himself! Or improve his abs who REALLY knows 😛 I have always thought that was the coolest thing and told myself I would do the same! Since, I’ve seen actual chairs with wheels made with a yoga ball seat – not sure you get the true full effect with these but hey, anything counts right, baby steps yeah?!
BUT WAIT, check this out …. I came across this when I was coming up with ideas for my own home office and I CANNOT wait to one day put one in my home office. A stationary bike…. DESK! Like what!!!! How cool is that. Like, might as well get a little cycle in while staying busy. These ideas are just too fun and neat to pass up!
7.) desk decor items
Let’s talk essentials – but make it cute!
I found some SUPER cute desk decor items (that you can personalize if you want to – wait for #8 below!) that I think you’ll love too!! Like mentioned above a few times, you can tie these into your theme and or color also. to make it that much more fun – and way less boring!!!!
8.) personalized stationary
This is such a neat way to add a little fun into your home office! You can personalize things with your name, your companies name, or your mission statement/quote. Literally anything! I’m talking all the things like
- notepads/post-it note pads
- pens/pencils
- envelopes/personalized stamps
- to-do list pads
- desk/name plate
- portfolio binder
- clipboard
- mouse pad
- business cards of course
9.) diy file folders
This is a small decor/organizational tip that will make your home office look clean and chic! You’ll just need 3 items for this DIY project! A label maker(or cricut), file folders, and a box that will fit the size of your folders! TA-DA! Definitely not hard, but definitely way cuter than any store bought filing cabinet/box that’s for sure. I absolutely love this idea – mainly because I’m obsessed with everything organization – and this is FUN + super cute! Plus, you’ll get it exactly how you want it if you do it yourself -duh! Giving each family member their own color or design to make it that much more organized and creative! #colorcoordinatingforthewin
10.) visitors nook inspo
Do you sometimes have to meet with people or employees and are over the whole ‘busy coffee shop’ scenery? Try adding a cute little nook in your home office for people to gather around to discuss while being cozy and professional! I’m talking about a couch & table, table & chairs, coffee corner, and tv for business purposes *not pleasure! This is an easy way to be able to meet with your team and or clients while also not having to haul all of your belongings to a coffee shop!
why is it important to create a home office
Working from home can be a huge blessing to some and what way to cater to that blessing than to make sure it always remains a blessing! Give yourself the space you need to be successful, make it your own, and dominate a work day!

[…] Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m totally typing this on my couch in sweats with a blanket over me. But that’s what I felt would work for me today and THAT’S OKAY! Buuuut, I do highly suggest having a dedicated office space that is not your bed or your couch so you’re not tempted to take a little “10 minute snooze” yeah? 😛 Are you creating your own at home office space or need to create your own at home office space? Here are a few ideas I’m loving and think you will too, Check out my recent post on “10 unique home office ideas you’ll love!” […]
